Simple prayers invite the Christian to give thanks for Independence Day, bless a fireworks display, and invite God's grace at a Fourth of July BBQ.

The Fourth of July is Independence Day in the United States of America. Many in the U.S. celebrate this holiday with family, fireworks, and food. The following prayers -- thanksgiving for Independence Day, grace before a Fourth of July BBQ, and blessing a fireworks display -- enable Christians to invite God into Fourth of July festivities.

Thanksgiving for Independence Day

The Fourth of July honors the founding of the United States of America and the nation's proud history and traditions. The following prayer offers the U.S. family an opportunity to give God thanks on the birthday of their country:

"God of power and might, You have brought the United States through many fights for independence since 1776, when our country was founded. We thank you for the honor of living in the U.S. today [share specific reasons why love and value the U.S.A., if desired]. Bless all who celebrate the U.S.A. today, and keep us one nation under You, Amen."

A family or other Christian gathering might stop to share specific thanksgivings in the middle of the prayer to not only celebrate the 4th, but also God's role in creating and protecting the U.S. for those of faith.

Grace Before Fourth of July BBQ

Many Americans celebrate the Fourth with a BBQ in the backyard or while camping. The following is a short, witty grace to invite God to the table: "God bless us. God bless the U.S.A.. God bless this food, as it feeds and fuels great Americans today. Amen."

For dramatic emphasis, the person saying this grace could get louder with each repetition of “God bless” and shout an “Amen” at the end, if desired.

Blessing for Fourth of July Fireworks Display

Watching a fireworks display live or on television is traditional on Independence Day. The following prayer blesses the fireworks that burst into air in honor of the U.S.A:

“God of light, as the fireworks light up the night sky, let our great country, also, light up the world and make it a better place. Each burst of light also celebrates You and Your care for our great nation, now and always. Amen.”

The Fourth of July celebrates the founding of the U.S.A. For American Christians, prayer is yet another way to honor their country, share their patriotism, and serve God all at the same time.
