History of the J.M. Davis Arms and Historical Museum
The museum's founder, pioneer and businessman J.M. Davis (1887-1973), loved collecting guns from an early age. He filled his Mason Hotel in downtown Claremore, Oklahoma with weapons and other objects he had purchased, bartered, or obtained by other creative means. By the end of his life, Davis had a collection worthy of the Smithsonian's interest, but he insisted his legacy remain in Oklahoma. Today, the State of Oklahoma displays Davis’ collection in a museum blocks from Davis' former hotel.
